Rocksresort Laax - Action in the Mountains

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

As restrictions were expected for the autumn holidays due to the still rampant pandemic, we were looking for a place in Switzerland where the whole family could relax and have fun.

Our Stay - Rocksresort: Action and lifestyle in the Swiss mountains

What we finally found and booked on the internet turned out to be exactly the right thing: The Rocksresort in Laax / GR.

Travelling by car from Zurich only takes an hour and a half. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly in the lobby of Hotel Signina. Our request for an apartment on a higher floor was granted and from the top floor of house D we had a great view of the large square and the resort's own skate park.

It was the skate park where we spent most of our vacation. Our boys had great fun riding their scooters and bikes on the pump track and in the skill area, while we adults watched them, had our drinks, read, and enjoyed the sun. Around the park there are seating areas, cafes, bars, restaurants and shopping areas. While the autumn sun warmed us during the day, we did appreciate a hot, fresh ginger punch in the later afternoon hours.

By the way, you can rent or buy scooters on site for CHF 7 per hour. However, it is advisable to bring your own accessories. There is also a ping pong table with equipment provided. Soccer can also be played.

Our modern 3 bedroom apartment had all the amenities one would expect from 4- star accommodation.

A special feature is certainly the bathroom made entirely of stone, which can be converted into a steam bath.

Dining - Cook, Restaurant or Take Away

The fully equipped kitchen and large table allowed us to order food from the surrounding restaurants (the resort has five restaurants and three bars) and eat in the apartment. This came in very handy especially during the pandemic. The prices for food and drink are a bit overpriced, but you receive good quality.

Experience - What is there to do in Laax?

What is there to experience in and around Laax? As the Rocksresort is connected to the top station of the Crap Sogn Gion, a visit to this beautiful mountain peak is a given. A return trip costs CHF 37 for adults and half the price for children. At 2252 meters above sea level, you can enjoy the wonderful view and have a meal in one of the restaurants or bars. All food and drinks throughout the area can be ordered via the INSIDE LAAX APP, avoiding any unnecessary queuing. The mountain station has dedicated itself to an intergalactic motto and is called GALAAXY.

Again, the young and the young at heart get their money's worth here. A freestyle park has been built on the terrain around the mountain station. Our boys each grabbed one of the free scooters on offer and enjoyed doing their rounds. They also tried their hand at the Ninja Warrior course and jumped on the trampoline or from the one of the obstacles onto the thick mats.

If you like it even sportier, you can bring your own bike with you up the mountain and then race down the seven-kilometer Never-End-Trail down into the valley.

Boredom? Laax has taken care of it. If you rent bow and arrow equipment at the Rocksresort, you can use it on a hiking trail to the village of Curnius, where an archery park with 24 stations is to be found on route. Plastic wild animals, which have to be shot down, are set up at each post. The walk takes 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on how much time it takes to shoot. Alternatively, you can also choose a shorter circular route with 11 stations. This takes you from Crap Sogn Gion via Tegia Miez and brings you back to Crap Sogn Gion again.

On a sunny morning we took a ride in the car towards Lake Cauma. There are (relatively few) paid parking spaces in Films Waldhaus. Luckily we caught the very last one! A forest path of about half an hour finally led us to the blue-green shimmering lake.

As there were a few pedalos available for free at the jetty, we were even able to enjoy the lake from the water and marvel at the many fish through the crystal-clear water.

We treated ourselves to a drink and a snack in the lake front restaurant with a large terrace. Even here you can order and pay for your food using the INSIDE LAAX APP. We shortened our trip back by using the free cable-car and once again, enjoyed a wonderful view over Lake Cauma from the top.

Laax has recently added yet another attraction: the longest treetop path in the world! We also didn't leave this 1.5 km long footbridge in the middle of the forest out. In addition to this, ‘little visitors’ can also look forward to sliding down a giant slide from the entry tower at the Rocksresort. Whizzing down the 73 m on a carpet is of course, lots of fun!

As you can see from our pictures, we were lucky with the weather. However, should it rain, the adjoining Freestyle Academy offers a great indoor program: a hall full of trampolines, obstacle courses and skate bowls! You do, however, need to take the mandatory one-hour introductory course first. This costs CHF 35 for children and CHF 46 for adults.

Our conclusion: Laax is a great destination for active holidays in the mountains. There is a lot on offer here, especially for children and young people. The Rocksresort is particularly recommended for families who would like to experience adventure and at the same time, keep their comforts.
