Do you as a family need to take a break from everyday life, but can’t be without comfort and style? Is it time for a digital detox? Then Catherine's airbnb in Trient is for you. With its tasteful decor, size and secluded location in the beautiful Valais Vallée du Trient, this place shines.
The house can accommodate up to ten people and has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Perfect for when travelling with grandparents and the in-laws, which we had done. Otherwise you can always take your friends ;-).
The property includes over 20,000 m2 of land, some of which is set in the forest. It has a fire pit and some outdoor furniture. Therefore, is an ideal space for kids to let off some steam!
The area also offers a wide variety of hikes for the summer months, which are also doable with children.
Also worth seeing is the nearby gorge "Gorges du Trient", which can be explored from Vernayaz in just a 20-minute walk.
Vernayaz can be reached from the house by car in about half an hour. There is a CHF 25 entrance fee at the gorge for a family with two children.
Much to the fascination of our kids, we even discover a real snake in the gorge. As we later learn from google, it appears to be an ‘Aesculus’ snake, which fortunately isn’t poisonous, but the longest in Europe.
On another day we visit the reservoir "Lac d'Emosson". You can get to the reservoir level by car in about about 30 minutes, there you will you reach a large car park. Alternatively, you can also take three mountain trains from Le Châtelard.
When we visit in October we are practically all by ourselves. The adjoining restaurant, however, is open and on this rather cool day, invites us to some warm drinks.
Climbing the dam is of course a must and quite impressive.
The arch dam was built between 1967 and 1974 and is 180 meters high.
For those keen hikers amongst us; you can take the 2.5-hour route to Lac du Vieux Emosson in summer and marvel at the well-preserved footprints of 250-million-year-old archesaurs.
Martigny is the next large town. It’s not necessarily a feast for the eyes, but still offers a lot, especially for children. For example, the St. Bernard Museum, the Barryland.
The world's oldest breed (over 300 years) of the Swiss national dog is housed here. The entrance fee of CHF 25 for families with children over the age of eight includes a visit to the breeding facility and the museum. Souvenirs can be found in abundance in the shop (chocolate, plush dogs, juice, etc.).
Another highlight for our children was the Laser Game at Bowland in Martigny. For 14 francs, you can spend 20 minutes shooting coloured lasers at your competitors.
Otherwise bowling, snooker or table tennis can also be played. Perfect when bad weather hits.
Luckily, during our stay in Valais, the sun shines every now and then and we enjoy the beautiful airbnb and the sourroundings through many walks and barbecues.
